Wikipedia Entry for Chatswood

Chatswood is a major business district on the north shore of Sydney.

Chatswood was named after the wife of the then mayor of Willoughby, Richard Hartnett.  Her name was Charlotte, but his pet name for her was ‘Chattie’.  The area back then was completely wooded and the area became known at Chattie’s Wood, later shortened to Chatswood.

Being a business district, the area around the train station is largely urban, and with two major shopping centres in the vicinity it is usually quite busy and filled with shoppers and business people  coming and going.  But a little venture in the right direction immediately takes us from the train station to a garden of remembrance, and then a small park with a playground.  A further walk around the suburb takes us into the nice residential area and then into a large park which includes a rose garden.

The rose garden at the garden of remembrance, with all the rose heads recently removed!

Indeed.

Tall trees of Chatswood Park.

There are even possums in this park!

Even the gate to the playground has a smiling face.

Same building, different views.

The Wonderful Eat Street includes our favourite, Mamak.

Outside the train station is a digital artwork encouraging people to “Dump The Car” and rather take public transport, walk or bike.

The artwork was done by Daniel Tobin and designed by Jamie Perrow.  The unit was created in 2008 by Urban Art Projects.  The casing looks to have been constructed with scrap metals.

On the back is written, “dump the car, catch the train, ride a bike, hail the bus, take a walk” – which is exactly what we have done and are doing.

The main shopping mall though Chatswood.

Reflections.

Ooooh, a diptych. And a triptych! And a quadtych, or am I just making up names for them now?!
